A Poisonous Snake?!?!

Yes, you read the title right. Poisonous snakes are real. Of course a lot of people say that venomous snakes are poisonous and that’s false… Except for two… The Tiger Keelback (Rhabdophis tigrinus). They are a venomous AND poisonous species native to East Asia and Southeast Asia. How does it get it’s toxins? They get it from eating toxic toads! They are diurnal which means they are active during the day and inactive in the night! They are also called the Kkotbaem and the Yamakagashi. They grow 24-39 inches long (60-100cm) and are in the family of Colubridae. Now, believe it or not. Garter snakes (Genus Thamnophis) are poisonous and mildly venomous. How?? They get their poison from the prey they eat, the American toad, and the Rough-skinned newt specifically. They are immune to those toxins and use them as a survival adaptation. Now there venom on the other hand, they only use it for their prey. Lucky for us, their venom only causes a small amount of swelling and itching. But with garters in captivity, they will not be venomous nor poisonous due to us feeding them fish, worms, pinkie mice, etc. That’s it for this blog about poisonous snakes! I really hope you learned a lot or maybe just a little! See you on the next blog!

Re-introduction?

Ok, it’s been a while since I have written anything on here. So let’s start with a re-introduction! Hi, my name is Camden. I’m a 12 year old Christian girl who is a HUGGEEE reptile lover! I have a pet leopard gecko named Oscar and he’s a mega cutie! I would love to be a herpetologist or a snake breeder when I grow up! (Hognoses, specifically). I make blogs about reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates! (Tarantulas, Isopods, etc). I also love dragons and books! I’m starting an Etsy shop as well called “TheBluePangolin”. I hope my blogs help you learn about stuff!

If you want to learn a little more about me and my interests, keep reading! If not though, leave this blog ;(

Lately I have gotten more into carnivorous plants and baseball! I’m thinking about starting a carnivorous plant blog too! (Not sure if my mom will say “yes” or “never, sorry dear you don’t know anything”. Just a joke hehehe!). If I could make a carnivorous plant blog it would be called “The Carnivores: A Carnivorous Plant Blog”! Carnivorous plants are super cool! Now with books, I LOVE wings of fire! But I decided to stop reading because it was getting to romancy, which I was super bummed about. I also really like the warriors series! I’m going to wrap this blog up to prepare and write the next blog. See you there! ;)

Why our amphibians are disappearing

Our beautiful and wonderful amphibians are disappearing, why? Well the water is filled with pollution and amphibians breathe threw their skin and their skin is sensitive. Amazing species have been dying off. The cause of this is because we don't dispose of our trash properly and it is also hurting sea turtle because we don't throw our trash away. An amazing species called the gastric brooding frog has went extinct recently. It's special to me and many other frog lovers because of the way it gave birth, it would swallow it's eggs and wait for them to hatch. Then the babies would mutate in the frog's stomach and once they turn to frogs they will climb out of the frog's mouth. I cant remember from the top of my head if the glass frog is extinct, if not its critically endangered. They are another amazing species of frog because you could see their insides if you look at the bottom of them. A lot of beautiful and spectacular amphibians are dying off because of pollution and trash in the water. So please remember to throw your trash away!

Introduction

Hi my name is Camden and I'm a 10 year old reptile and amphibian fanatic and I have a leopard gecko named Oscar. I wish I could have a snake but my parents wont allow me to. I had fire bellied toads in the past but they sadly pasted away. I have gulf coast toads in my front yard and in my backyard I have green and brown anoles including green tree frogs. My whole life I have been liking reptiles and amphibians including dragons and dinosaurs. And I'm exited that I'm starting my first blog all about reptiles and amphibians including bugs. Its strange that I have hated spiders my whole life but tarantulas are cute to me. And its not that common to see girls liking reptiles and amphibians and all that stuff. It really annoys me when people talk trash about snakes and think snakes are slimy, really the only time you can feel a slimy snake is if you pet one while its in the water. Anyway that's
it for my introduction. :)
